The objective: My experiment is testing the Niagara falls lights on a smaller scale. In my experiment, I am trying to use highlighters, water, and light to make the water in the tubes glow. While I was doing this experiment I noticed that all the colors absorbed the water at the same time. The Yellow highlighter took the longest and the blue highlighter to the quickest. My predictions were that after 30 minutes when the water absorbs the color of all three highlighters, it will glow when light flashes on it.
The purpose of my experiment is to find out how light, water, and highlighters can be used to glow. I became interested in this experiment during the night I observed how the lights of Niagara Falls glowed.
I wanted to try this experiment on a smaller scale by using highlighters. The information gathered by this experiment will help people during a black out. It can also be used for entertainment purposes.
If I place the inside of the highlighters in the tubes, then the water will absorb the color of that highlighter. After about 30 minutes when the water absorbs the color of all three highlighters, and the flashlight is pointed under the tubes they will then glow.
• 3 Clear Tubes
• 3 Highlighters
• 180 ml Of Water (60 ml In Each Cup)
• 1 Funnel
• 1 Measuring Cup
• 1 Flashlight
• 1Tweezer
• 1 Plier
1. Fill each tube with 60 ml of water.
2. Use the Plier to open the top of all three highlighters.
3. Put the inside sponge material in the tubes.
4. Wait 30 minutes until the water absorbs the color of t he highlighters.
5. Use the tweezer to take the inside sponge material from the tubes.
6. Turn on and point the flashlight under the three tubes and watch them glow
My hypothesis was that if three highlighters were placed in tubes, the water would absorb the color of the highlighters and result in water glow by flashing a light on it. My results I got by doing the experiment do support my hypothesis. In my opinion my experiment went smoothly and had no problems.
